Two Nabarangpur labourers killed in Sukuma mayhem

Of 27 persons who died in the Maoist attack on Congress Parivartan Rally in Chhattisgarh’s Jagdalpur district on Saturday, two were tribal daily wage earners from Bamuni village under Kosagumunda block in Nabarangapur district.

According to reports, five tribal labourers of the village were on their way from Sukuma to Jagdalpur by a truck. Unfortunately, their truck was following the convoy of Congress leaders at Darbha Ghat where the Maoists started firing indiscriminately.

In the incident, the five labourers sustained bullet injuries and of them, Chandra Sekhar Majhi and Prahalad Majhi died on the spot. Three other injured are Dina Majhi, Suru Majhi and Bhadra Majhi. Bodies of Chandra and Prahalad were handed over to their families on Monday.

At a meeting here on Monday, Congress leaders held the Chhattisgarh Government responsible for the bloodbath and demanded immediate probe into the incident. Meanwhile, a Congress delegation from Koraput led by Taraprasad Bahinipati has left for Raipur to attend the funeral of Chhattisgarh Congress president NK Patel.

Govt Announces Compensation

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday announced ex gratia of `2 lakh for each family of deceased Chandra Sekhar Majhi and Prahalad Majhi.

Naveen has directed the Nabarangapur administration to pay the amount from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
