Odisha labourer alleges wife's death to starvation 

A Casual labourer has alleged that his wife died of starvation in Barchana block of Jajpur district. The incident took place on Saturday.

JAJPUR: A Casual labourer has alleged that his wife died of starvation in Barchana block of Jajpur district. The incident took place on Saturday.The deceased is Bilas Singh (30), a resident of Bagau village in Bayree panchayat under Barachana block in the district.

Her husband Jagan, who works as a casual labour to maintain his five-member family, said Bilas was ailing and did not have food for the last couple of days. He claimed that he did not receive any medical assistance although he had contacted the local ASHA, ANM and anganwadi worker.

On the other hand, Barachana BDO Gopabandhu Bhusagar attributed the death due to tuberculosis (TB). He said the woman was suffering from TB for a long time and was taking medicines.

Jajpur Collector Ranjan Kumar Das has ordered an inquiry into the incident by the BDO.
