Odisha: Two minor girls drown in pond

JAGATSINGHPUR: In a tragic incident, two minor girls met a watery grave while taking bathing in a pond at Kokipada village within Tirtol police limits here on Sunday.  They were identified as nine-year-old Manaswita Jena and 11-year-old Rakhirani Khandual.

Sources said Manaswita was bathing in the village pond when she accidentally slipped into deep water. On seeing the girl drowning, Rakhirani went to her rescue but also got drowned. On being informed, villagers rushed to the spot and rescued the girls in a critical condition.

The minors were rushed to Manijanga CHC where the doctor declared them brought dead. While Manaswita was a student of Class V, Rakhirani was enrolled in  Class VI of Kokipada primary school. Police have registered an unnatural death case in this connection.
