BHUBANESWAR: A sexagenarian was arrested by police for allegedly raping a 11-year-old girl in Durga Mandap Basti under Kharavel Nagar police limits. The accused has been identified as Ajay Kumar Barik. According to police, the victim was playing near her house around 1 pm on July 16 when Barik took her to his house in the absence of his family members and raped her.
After being released, the girl revealed the incident to her elder sister. The victim’s family members lodged a complaint with Kharavel Nagar police on July 17 and police registered a case. Barik, who was working as a hairdresser in the city, was nabbed. Police sources said Barik has two granddaughters aged 7 and 3. The accused was living in the city with his wife, son, daughter, daughter-in-law and two grandchildren. “Barik was arrested and produced in court on Wednesday,” Kharavel Nagar police said.
