Odisha: Hirakhand Express stranded in Rayagada

RAYAGADA: Train services between Rayagada and Koraput (KR line) were disrupted as the railway tracks were submerged in flood water on Saturday.  Water was also flowing over the tracks in Bhalumaska and Tumbitarai as a result of which, Jagdalpur-Howrah Samleswari Express, Koraput-Visakhapatnam DMU, Koraput-Visakhapatnam Intercity and Bhubaneswar-Jagdalpur Hirakhand Express were delayed by four hours

In another incident, a man and his wife died and their son was injured when a wall of their thatched house collapsed in Sulipadar village under Kalyansinghpur block of Rayagada district on Saturday.The deceased are Madhaba Loya (60) and Jasoda Loya (55). They were sitting near the wall when it caved in, killing the two at the spot and injuring their son Panchanan. Although locals rushed them to Kalyansinghpur CHC, doctors declared them brought dead. Panchanan sustained minor injuries. Due to incessant rains, the  walls of the house had become wet and weak.

As rains continued to lash the district for the third day on Saturday, water level of rivers rose. Bansadhara was flowing close to the warning level of 83 metres while the danger level is 84 metres. Almost all the rivers flowing through the district are in spate. Collector Guha Poonam Tapas Kumar formed a monitoring team and deputed the members to flooded area to look into relief and rescue operations.
