NABARANGPUR: Despite inauguration of the much-awaited Mother and Child Hospital (MCH) on the DHH premises in 2017, the facility is yet to be made operational.

The 50-bed hospital constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 8.65 lakh was inaugurated by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik through a video conference. While the DHH building has 102 beds, more than 150 patients are being accommodated. The non-availability of sufficient space and beds is creating difficulties for the pregnant women and new born babies.

Due to non-functional of the MCH, patients are seen lying on the DHH verandah and waiting for their turn to get a bed. Similarly, only one paediatric specialist against three sanctioned posts is managing the department.
