Elephant tramples Odisha woman to death in Choudwar

A herd of 10-15 elephants which had strayed into the locality have been camping in the area for the last couple of days and straying into human habitation in search of food, triggering panic.

CUTTACK: A 36-year-old woman was trampled to death by an elephant at Mahisalanda village under Choudwar police limits in Cuttack district on Sunday night.

The deceased has been identified as Kalpana Swain, wife of Niranjan Swain. After closing her shop, Kalpana had gone to attend nature's call along with a girl of her neighbourhood at about 10 pm when an elephant chased them.

While the girl managed to escape, Kalpana fell down following which the elephant trampled her. Later, though villagers along with some local forest personnel rushed to the spot and rushed her to SCB Medical College and Hospital, she died on the way.
