Assitant professor given compulsory retirement in Odisha

The varsity has also issued an order directing the head of department besides the concerned sections to de-register Panigrahi from the university records.

SAMBALPUR: The authorities of Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT), Burla have handed over ‘compulsory retirement’ to an assistant professor over alleged misconduct and breach of discipline. While decision in this regard was taken on February 27, the varsity informed about the action through a press release late on Wednesday evening.

The University Board of Management imposed compulsory retirement on Siba Prasada Panigrahi, assistant professor of Department of Electrical Engineering of the varsity. The varsity has also issued an order directing the head of department besides the concerned sections to de-register Panigrahi from the university records.

Official sources said, Panigrahi, on multiple occasions in the past, was found abusing VSSUT authorities in obscene language besides defaming the varsity on social media. Earlier, he was suspended for a period of over two years for misconduct and behavioural issues. Moreover, he was also removed from his previous job allegedly for indiscipline and misconduct which he had not disclosed during his posting at VSSUT.

In October last year, VSSUT authorities had taken similar action against assistant professor of Computer Application Department, Sasmita Padhi and handed her compulsory retirement over disciplinary issues.
