24-year-old youth arrest with illegal gun in Jajpur district

JAJPUR: Jajpur police on Saturday arrested a 24-year-old man from Purbakota village for allegedly possessing illegal firearms. They seized two pistols, two magazines, five rounds of live ammunition and a motorcycle from his possession.

The accused, Michael Santosh of Purbakota village under Korei police limits, was arrested following a tip-off that he was roaming in the area on a motorcycle while carrying a pistol. Acting on the information, a police team from the district police headquarters conducted a raid in the village.

“When we tried to nab him, he threatened police personnel by brandishing a pistol. We managed to apprehend him,” a senior police officer said. Police later searched his house and recovered two pistols, two magazines and five rounds of live ammunition, besides the motorcycle.

A case was registered against Santosh and further investigation is underway.
