A resident of Sholavandan, in Madurai unearthed a clay pot containing 4 gold bars, golden beads, a golden chain.

MADURAI: A resident of Sholavandan, in Madurai district unearthed a clay pot containing beads of gold resembling rudraksha seeds and gold bars, from the cavity caused by an uprooted tree on Saturday.

Sonaimuthupillai of Thenur near Sholavandan owns some agriculture lands along the road leading to Thachampathu from Thenur.

He had a tree on his land uprooted two months ago. Manjula, wife of Selvam and resident of the same area, was passing along this land with her son Arjun on Saturday.

The boy who was playing near the uprooted tree, picked up something like the lid of a clay pot. The mother brushed away the soil and found a clay pot underneath and pulled it out. When she examined the pot, she found the string of golden beads.

Following the discovery of the pot of treasure, Manjula is said to have staked claim of the contents of the pot, but the owner of the land Sonaimuthupillai was informed about the finding.

He immediately conveyed this information to the village administrative officer.

VAO V Uma, along with Revenue Officer Sivakaminathan, rushed to the spot and seized the pot containing golden beads. The officials also found 4 gold bars each measuring 3 inches, 21 golden beads, a golden chain with 32 links and a golden clasp to connect the two ends of the chain.

Madurai North Tahsildar A Ilamathi, on information of the find, visited the spot and brought the pot with its contents to Madurai.

The other two pots which were also unearthed near the pot of gold were found empty.

Speaking to reporters, Ilamathi said that the pots and the jewels will be kept under government custody.
