UDHAGAMANDALAM (TAMIL NADU): The driver of steam-run Heritage Train, Nilgiris Moutain Rail sustained burns when the pipe supplying water to the engine burst and boiled water spilled on him today, railway sources said.
The train was stopped due to non-functioning of the engine for want of steam and about 160 passengers were stranded between Aderley and Rannymedu railway stations.
The driver, Premdas, was rushed to a hospital in Coonoor.
Another steam engine was sent to the spot, which pulled the stranded engine and four compartments with passengers to Coonoor. The train's arrival was delayed by more than four hours, they said.
