CHENNAI: Tamil Maanila Muslim League (TMML) president Sheikh Dawood has raised a clarion call to the Muslim community in Tamil Nadu to become more politically active, or politically aware at the very least, to improve their economic and social situation. Dawood especially appealed to the women of the community to take up political activities.

“Not much good can come from staying behind a pardah. All Muslims, especially women, should step out and work to improve the lives of all community members,” said Sheikh Dawood, at the party’s general council meeting, on Saturday.

Dawood also underlined his party’s support to the AIADMK-led coalition in the coming Assembly elections. “We have been with the AIADMK for 15 years. The relationship continues. I appeal to all partymen to work hard to return Jayalalithaa as the CM,” he said.

Dawood hit out at the DMK on a host of issues ranging from the 2G scam, price rise and Mullaiperiyar. He also flayed the DMK-led of government of not doing enough to ensure government schemes reached Muslims. “It is not enough to come out with scheme on top of scheme if they are not reaching the intended beneficiaries’’.
