VELLORE: The residents of Mullipalayam and KK Nagar on Monday, picketed Zone Four Shenbakkam office demanding the clearing of garbage, drains and completion of sanitation works in their areas.

During the protest, they said that drains overflow and the garbage isn’t cleared for months together. The agitators later tried to close the entrance gate of the Zone Four office.

Zone Four Officer Kanagasundhari pointed out the shortage of employees in the Corporation.

She said, as many as 15 persons should work for these works from the ward no. 57 to 60 but only eight persons are involved in the actual garbage clearing work. She also said that wards are big with over 600 streets and this delays the job.

The protestors during the day gathered at the Electricity Board office in Shenbakkam and held agitation demanding continuous power supply.
