CHENNAI: Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment D Napoleon may have quit the entertainment industry after joining the Union Cabinet, but on Monday he turned entertainer again after his political mentor M K Alagiri asked him to sing. Delivering his speech after inaugurating the High Learning Centre in CIPET, Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilisers M K Alagiri on Monday told the audience, “Since many of you want Napoleon to sing, I ask him to sing a song for you.”

A shocked Napoleon later obliged as he said that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has asked him not to take any film roles after he had taken oath as minister. “I requested him that I have three films pending and want to complete it. And he had kindly obliged,” said Napoleon. And then he retorted, “It has been a long time since I have been cut off from my fans.”

He later sang the song ‘Kizhakku Cheemayile’ from the hit film Seevalaperi Pandi. While the audience applauded him, Alagiri and DMK MP K P Ramalingam were seen smiling.

Earlier, Ramalingam urged Alagiri to set up a separate university for CIPET, which is now affiliated to Anna University.

Alagiri said efforts are on to grant university status for the CIPET.
