Jayaraman assumes charge as Deputy Speaker

Express News Service

Former Minister Pollachi V Jayaraman on Monday assumed office as the Deputy Speaker of the Tamil Nadu Assembly. Speaker P Dhanapal announced that he was elected unanimously.  Leaders of the various political parties, including Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa greeted him while the opposition leaders appealed him to provide sufficient opportunities for them during the proceedings as Jayaraman had functioned as a member of the House both in Treasury and Opposition Benches.

Hailing the involvement of Jayaraman in executing works relating to the AIADMK as well as the public life, the CM recalled the various positions held by him since the times of ex-Chief Minister MG Ramachandran.

Since Jayaraman had served as a member of the opposition during the previous regimes, impartiality would be in his veins, she said and added that he was very much fit for the post of the Deputy Speaker.  “Jayaraman, not only can assist the Speaker, but also can function with equal efficiency”, the CM said and expressed confidence that all members would express full cooperation to Jayaraman.

Deputy Leader of Opposition, S Ramachandran, DMK floor leader MK Stalin and leaders of all parties greeted the new Deputy Speaker.
