Tiff over sawmill, man kills son

A 66-year-old man Natarajan and his elder son Murugesan (40) were arrested here on Tuesday, for murdering his younger son following a quarrel over property here.

Police said Natarajan and Murugesan were arrested for murdering his younger son R Gurulingam (34) of Nehru Nagar in Sathuvachari. Gurulingam’s body was found in a pool of blood at his sawmill in the early hours of Monday.

On inquiry,  Natarajan and Murugesan confessed to the murder. Natarajan developed hatred towards Gurulingam as the latter used to abuse and assault him in an inebriated state. Murugesan was unhappy with his brother as he refused to sell the sawmill to him but sold it to his second brother Jeeva Rathinam for Rs17.5 lakh.

“Natarajan and Murugesan met Gurulingam at the mill on Sunday night quarelled. They fought with him. Irked over this, Gurulingam hit them,” said inspector E Thirunavukarasu.

The two attacked him with a wooden log. Sustaining injuries on his head, Gurulingam died on the spot. Police booked a case and remanded the duo to Vellore Central Prison for Men.
