The Hindustan Photo Films (HPF) on Tuesday received a breather after the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) sanctioned Rs 11.93 crore for salary and statutory (Provident Fund) payment for the employees who have been on strike for the past one month.

According to the company sources, the CCEA, during its meet held in Delhi, allotted the sum for the immediate requirements of the company so as to enable it to resume operations.  The funds could be used to meet the salary requirements for at least six months.

However, sources added that the crisis at the unit, already reeling under losses and strike, worsened after the Electricity and Forest departments demanded clearance of past dues.

Sources said that power supply had already been disconnected for non-settlement of dues. Similarly, the Forest Department had asked the HPF to clear land lease arrears amounting to `25 lakh as the company was on forest lands.

The employees, sensing that the package would be insufficient for sustained operations, have decided to continue with their strike till the company is fully bailed out by the Centre.
