Express News Service

The local unit of the CPM has decided to picket the Raj Nivas on June 20 demanding a roll back of the power hike effected by the government.

Briefing newsmen at a conference on Thursday, V Perumal, the Puducherry unit secretary of the party, said that the government should reconsider its decision. A demonstration would be organised on June 11 seeking the constitution of a committee for regulation of fees, action to be taken against those responsible for the scam in Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Financial Assistance Scheme for CENTAC-sponsored students.

T Murugan, TN state council member of CPM, said that a conference on statehood for Puducherry would be organised in association with Indian Social Institute on June 23 to assess the pros and cons of statehood for Puducherry.

He alleged that Union Minister of State for PMO V Narayanasamy was hoodwinking the people by stating that statehood with special category is required for Puducherry knowing fully well that Puducherry was not eligible for special category as per criteria.
