Union minister of state for Prime Minister’s Office V Narayansamy strongly criticised Chief Minister N Rangasamy for skipping the Chief Ministers’ conference on internal security convened by the Prime Minister in New Delhi on Wednesday.
In a statement here on Thursday, Narayanasamy said that Rangasamy might have kept away out of fear that he would, at the meeting, stand answerable about the precarious law and order situation prevailing in the Union territory.
He said that three Lieutenant Governors, 17 Chief Ministers, including Opposition Chief Ministers Narendra Modi, Akhilesh Yadav, Nitish Kumar, Raman Sigh and Manik Sarkar, had attended the conference and put forth their requirements.
However, Rangasamy failed to attend the meeting at a time when Puducherry is reeling under anti-social activities, land grabbing cases and increasing atrocities against women.
Instead of putting an end to the menace, he was continuously charging at the Centre for not providing adequate funds and blaming him (Narayanasamy) for such a situation, said Narayanasamy.
He wondered why the Chief Minister had failed to seek adequate funds from the Centre.
He said in case a chief minister could not take part, he should have nominated a minister to represent him and express the views of the state.
Citing Tamil Nadu, he said Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha had sent her nominee, Law minister Munusamy, who participated in the meet. The absence is not in the interest of Puducherry, he added.
