Disclose plans on kuruvai, says MK

Express News Service

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)  chief M Karunanidhi on Tuesday said that the Tamil Nadu government must make public its plans with regard to kuruvai crop irrigation.

“The government should come forward and clarify whether water will be released for the kuruvai crop, what action farmers should take and what steps the government intends to take,” Karunanidhi  said in a statement.

Despite acknowledging the fact that water levels in Mettur dam were extremely low, he blamed the AIADMK government for not releasing water for irrigation.

Karunanidhi also said that water is usually released from the Mettur Dam on June 12 every year for irrigation of the kuruvai crop. Ever since AIADMK government took over, water has not been released on this date, he claimed.
