A woman devotee was robbed off her nine-sovereign gold chain while she was circumambulating the Arunachala Hills as part of Girivalam at Tiruvannamalai on Saturday morning.
Jayalakshmi (35), a resident of Tiruppur and a private school teacher, was at Tiruvannamalai along with her relatives to visit Sri Arunachaleswarar Temple.
On Saturday morning, while she was performing Girivalam along with her relatives near Emalingam temple, located along the Girivalam path, a person who was talking over a cellphone behind her suddenly snatched her gold chain and fled the scene.
Eyewitnesses said that the miscreant boarded a car that was parked a few metres away.
Based on her complaint, Tiruvannamalai Taluk police registered a case and were investigating.
