Kathiri going, but don't expect much relief

Express News Service

After recording maximum temperatures over 42 degrees Celsius for three days on the trot, the sky was cloudy through most of the day on Monday. But there may not be reason to rejoice yet, despite the fact that the blistering dog days (kathiri/agni nakshatram) end on Tuesday. The heat wave of the past weekend could continue, says the weatherman.

The maximum temperature rose to only 36.6 degrees Celsius on Monday. While that is not precisely cool weather, it was certainly less blazing than the past few days. The Met Department has predicted that the skies are likely to continue to be generally cloudy and the maximum temperature is expected to touch 37 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.

“We can thank the cloudy day for the fall in temperature on Monday. But we cannot give blanket statements that the heat is bound to fall. If the clouds clear, then we could have some very hot days due to the heat wave. If there is a thunderstorm, then the temperature will fall,” says Regional Meteorological Director S R Ramanan.
