Thanjavur farmhand kills second wife too

A farm labourer, who completed a jail term for murdering his first wife a few months back, allegedly killed his second wife also on Monday near Orathanadu.

Police said, T Rengasamy (45) of Kovilur village in Thanjavur was convicted for murdering his first wife Papa in 1996. While the murder case was under trial, he married Padmini (37) as his second wife and had two sons from her. He completed his jail term in 2012.

On Monday, there was a quarrel between the couple, following which Rengasamy slammed Padmini with a hoe, while she was asleep, killing her on the spot.

Following a complaint from the VAO police have have launched a search to nab Rengasamy.
