Dirty water enters houses

Express News Service

Residents of Battai Street on Arni Road in Velapadi demanded restoration and desilting of the drainage lines in their locality. They also complained that sewage water was entering their houses.

Prakasam, a resident of the street, said the drainage line on the other side of the road was restored three years ago, but this line was not taken into consideration. They said, the lines that were over five decades old, were broken and the cement lining had caved in, allowing sewage water to flow on the road.

“The drains along the main road connecting Kosapet and Sankaranpalayam areas get clogged because of waste dumped by passersby and business establishments,” Sankaran, a resident of the area, said.

The situation becomes worse during the rainy season, the residents complained and demanded that approximately 200 metres of the drain be desilted and restored before the rainy season.

Councillor of ward 38, S Raja said the Corporation had allotted Rs 5 lakh under the General Fund for the year 2012-2013 in a recently held council meeting. He said the officials point out to the lack of funds for the delay in starting the work.

Raja also complained that the local body had taken more than four months to start the work.
