Express News Service

Ten persons were arrested in connection with a minor group clash between Dalits and Caste Hindus at Thaniyamangalam village near here on Wednesday.

Sources said that members of both the communities were harbouring enmity following a dispute during a kabbadi match last year.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, a group of Caste Hindu youth from Thirumangalam went to Thaniyamangalam village to participate in the Ayyanar temple festival.

Some Dalits of Muthuramalingampatti village who learnt about the group’s visit to the temple festival, reached Thaniyamangalam and allegedly attacked them on Tuesday night.

Following this, a Caste Hindu group retaliated by attacking houses of Dalits at Muthuramalingampatti.

Police booked cases against members of both communities and arrested 10 persons. The police also booked a case under the SC/ST (POA) Act.
