Express News Service

The skies had probably opened up only for her. The day was special as it was Guru Peyarchi, believed in Hindu mythology to be a day when one’s dreams come true.

On such an auspicious Thursday when the ‘daughter of the soil’ came calling to offer special prayers at the temple of Lord Sri Ranganathaswamy at Srirangam, few would wonder why thousands gathered at the premises.

Clad in a crimson silk saree, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa arrived at Tiruchy Airport along with friend Sasikala around 4.20 pm and received pooja articles from Eesanari Vinayagar, temple priest from Coimbatore, before proceeding to Srirangam.

At the temple, she was received by priests led by Rangaraja Battar with golden pot (Thanga Kumbam)and Thamboolam.
