Rains lashed parts of eastern Vellore district on Tuesday night bringing cheer to the people in the region.

A total of 53 cm rainfall (average being 4 cm) was recorded overnight across the district. Sholinghur received the highest of 11.2 cm rainfall.

According to the daily report provided by the revenue administration, disaster management and mitigation department here, Arakkonam  recorded 9.4 cm rainfall closely followed by Kaveripakkam- 6.9cm, Arcot- 6.7cm, Wallajah- (5.1 cm, Vellore- 4.5cm, Gudiyattam-4 cm, Melalathur-2.9cm, Ambur- 0.8cm, Alangayam- (0.7cm, Vaniyambadi-0.4cm and Tirupattur- 0.1 cm.
