As the Supreme Court is set to announce its verdict on a Government Order (G.O) allowing non-Brahmin priests in temples, ML Raja, Tamil Nadu RSS president said that they were not against the idea.

“There is no question of caste. Do you mean to say non-Brahmins are not priests in any temple in Tamil Nadu today? The qualification in the religious canons and discipline is what is important,” Raja said.

Speaking to The Hindu, Raja said that the knowledge of rituals and religion is more important and not the person’s caste. However, some members of the BJP were against the state government interfering in temple affairs.
