PUDUCHERRY: Pointing out that the Puducherry administration is yet to seek central assistance towards rain relief, president of Tamil Nadu Mahila Congress and MLA S Vijayadharani asked Chief Minister Rangasamy to approach the Centre to seek the same at the earliest.
She was speaking to reporters here on Tuesday while proceeding to Cuddalore to visit the flood affected areas.
‘It is not known whether the Central government would show real concern over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and provide the required assistance’, she said.
She blamed the Puducherry and Tamil Nadu governments for their inaction on desilting and maintaining tanks, lakes, channels and other water sources. She said timely desilting could have prevented flooding and subsequent damage.
She charged that the rain relief works were being undertaken in a slow pace, especially in Puducherry.
Rejecting any talk of factionalism in the Tamil Nadu Mahila Congress, Vijayadharani said that the Mahila congress functionaries are working unitedly.
She also addressed the Puducherry mahila Congress functionaries.
Medical Camp
The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (North) as part of it’s rain relief work is scheduled to organize a medical camp at Kalapet constituency in association with the Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) on Wednesday.
DMK north convenor S P Sivakumar in a release said all medical facilities would be available at the camp. Specialist doctors in various disciplines would examine the patients, he added.
Former chief minister R V Janakiraman and former Rajya Sabha member C P Thirunavukkarasu would be attending the camp.
