Tamil Nadu CM Palaniswami announces 4 % DA hike for 18 lakh government staff

CHENNAI: Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Wednesday announced four per cent hike in dearness allowance for 18 lakh employees, pensioners and family pensioners of the State government with retrospective effect from January 1.

The move would cost the exchequer an additional expenditure of Rs 986.77 crore. The government, had on December 15, 2016, given seven per cent DA hike to its staff.
The announcement follows the Central Government’s decision to hike DA for its employees who have not received the revised pay scale with effect from January 1, 2016.  

The DA arrears from January to April 2017 would be credited to the bank accounts of employees and others. From May onwards, the DA hike would be given along with the monthly salary, the Chief Minister said in a statement here. While government employee s would get a minimum hike of Rs 244 to a maximum of Rs 3,080, the pensioners and family pensioners would get a minimum hike of Rs 122 to a maximum  of Rs 1,540.  

The DA hike will apply to the teaching and non-teaching staff working in government-aided educational institutions, employees under local bodies, employees governed by the University Grants Commission /All India Council for Technical Education scales of pay, the Teachers /Physical Directors/Librarians in Government and Aided Polytechnics and Special Diploma Institutions, Village Assistants in Revenue Department, Noon Meal Organisers, Child Welfare Organisers, Anganwadi Workers, Cooks, Helpers, Panchayat Assistants/Clerks in Village Panchayat under Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department and sanitary workers drawing special time scale of pay.
