COIMBATORE: 25 private buses were seized by RTO officials today for reportedly being driven rashly and competitively on various routes here, with two drivers being arrested and their licences witheld.    

The seizure was made after a video grab of two buses racing each other at Pollachi Road went viral on social media and footage was forwarded by a complainant to Pollachi Sub Collector Gayathri Krishnan, who ordered action to be taken.      

She directed the local RTO N Karthikeyan to look into the matter and he ordered monitoring of the buses, police said.      

Officials seized 17 buses in Kinathukadavu, two in Pollachi Taluk and six in Komangalam, for overspeeding and competing with each other for passengers, they said.      

Two drivers were arrested and their licences withheld and cases registered against them under various sections, police said        

They said licences of three drivers operating on the route have been were suspended.      

The Sub-Collector has convened a meeting of owners of private buses at Pollachi on May 2, official sources said.
