TIRUCHY: All he wanted was to get a selfie with his leader. But the 50-year-old AIADMK loyalist ended up being branded as an assasin by political leaders and media on Sunday.

T Cholairajan, a barber by profession and an AIADMK party loyalist for the last three decades, created quite a ruffle at the Tiruchy airport after he rushed to meet the leader of the rebel faction O Panneerselvam who had arrived from Chennai.

But as he approached his leader from the rear, the CRPF personnel providing security for Panneerselvam apprehended him and found that he was carrying a knife.  All of this was reportedly not noticed by Panneerselvam who proceeded for a meeting.

The sensational news flashed on TV channels as an attempt on the rebel leader’s life. Former Union Minister of Shipping GK Vasan was convinced enough to condemn the assassination attempt on the former Chief Minister.

Later, it was understood all that Cholairajan wanted was a selfie with his leader that he could blow up into a banner and flaunt at his daughter’s wedding. And the knife he was carrying was allegedly to work on banners and posters of his leader.
