Dhanushkodi coastal police seize 100 kg sea cucumber

RAMESWARAM: About 100 kg of sea cucumber valued at Rs 10 lakh in the international market, was seized Thursday near Dhanushkodi by coastal marine police.

Two persons were arrested when they were found to be shifting it to a boat. They were allegedly planning to smuggle the sea cucumber to Sri Lanka via Dhanushkodi, police said.

About 300 kg of sea cucumber was seized on August 10 by coastal marine police from a boat anchored at Mandapam North Sea here.

Sea cucumber has been classified as an endangered coral species and their harvest is banned under the Wildlife Protection Act.
