Fishermen shooting: TN to take up the matter with PM directly

The State government would take up the matter with the Centre strongly, and the MPs from the State would raise it in the upcoming Parliament session, said E Palanisami.

SALEM: Strongly condemning the killing of K Bridjo (21) allegedly by Sri Lankan Navy, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisami said the government and the party would take up the matter directly with the Prime Minister, and also in the coming session of the Parliament. 

The chief minister announced Rs 5 lakhs solatium Bidjo's family, and Rs 1 lakh for the injured fisherman, Jeron. 

The State government would take up the matter with the Centre strongly, and the MPs from the State would raise it in the upcoming Parliament session, added the chief minister, who was in the western district for a government scheme distribution function on Tuesday morning.

The fishermen came under attack without warning, said Palaniswami, recalling that this is the latest in a series of incidents including killings, detentions and snatching away their boats and nets. Ramanathapuram district administration has been directed to provide medical treatment to the injured fisherman Jeron, he added.

“Our MPs will once again take up the latest incident directly with the Prime Minister and also raise the issue in the coming session of the Parliament,” Palaniswami said.
