CHENNAI: After being under the Income Tax (I-T) department scanner for the last five days, Vivek Jayaraman, Jaya TV chief executive officer and nephew of jailed AIADMK leader V K Sasikala, on Tuesday made a politically correct statement, saying there was no vendetta angle in the raids. He said he had been asked by the department to provide details about his wife’s jewellery and documents seized from his premises.

Vivek, who is managing affairs of Jaya TV since March this year and Jazz Cinemas from 2015, said the sleuths questioned him about the documents and he had responded.

“There were documents of companies, general accounts and so on. They questioned me about those papers. Since we are into film distribution, there were queries about agreements as well. We gave clear answers,” he said.

Vivek and his sister Krishna Priya had been the focus of the five-day income tax searches. Krishna Priya, niece of Sasikala, is alleged to be a major operator of shell companies.

Meanwhile, I-T officials summoned Jazz Cinema staff and grilled them at the Nungambakkam I-T  office.
