PMK cadre electrocuted on top of train during Cauvery protests in Tamil Nadu

CHENNAI: The protests over formation of Cauvery Management Board Wednesday turned violent with one person suffering burns when he climbed over a train and came in contact with a live wire. The victim identified as Ranjith,  who is a PMK cadre suffered a severe electric shock and has been hospitalised with 70 percent burns.

Sources said the auto driver had climbed the train at Tindivanam station during the protest.

The state is witnessing yet another day of agitations with the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) calling for a bandh over the Cauvery issue. The party cadres reportedly resorted to blocking trains at several places across Tamil Nadu since morning. 

While Puducherry received a good response for the bandh, whereas the impact in Tamil Nadu was partial. In certain PMK pockets, like Dharmapuri and Cuddalore districts, most shops remained shut. However, the government bus services remained unaffected.

With an influential traders association, Tamil Nadu Vanigar Sangam Peravai, calling for a hartal today, some shops in Chennai downed their shutters.  

The mob pelted stones at buses plying towards Hogenekkal. At Pennagaram in Dharmapuri, buses were halted at depots after the attacks on the buses.

PMK cadres, led by the party leader Anbumani Ramadoss entered Egmore railway station and demonstrated a rail roko.
