Son kills father during fight over watching TV in Vellore

Reportedly the victim was watching a TV drama when his son demanded to change the channel, resulting in the disagreement which soon escalated into a fight.

VELLORE: A 34-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly killing his father during an altercation over watching television in Arakkonam. According to sources, the victim was identified as one Annamalai (55), a resident of Sai Nagar in Arakkonam. The accused is his son Nandakumar (34).

Reportedly, the incident took place at around 9 pm on Wednesday, when Annamalai was watching a drama on TV. However, Nandakumar told his father that he wanted to watch a cricket match on another channel.

The resulting disagreement soon escalated into a fight and, in a fit of rage, Nandakumar hit his father with an iron rode. In the impact, Annamalai fell to the floor. The screams drew out the neighbours and they took Annamalai to Arakkonam GH. Meanwhile, Nandakumar fled the spot. Annamalai was later declared dead and his body was taken for autopsy.

Immediately after the incident, the neighbours alerted police attached to Arakkonam Town Station and Deputy Superintendent of Police Kuthalingam formed a team to search and nab the accused. They soon found out that Nandakumar was spotted near Arakkonam railway station, apparently trying to escape. The police rushed to the railway station and arrested him.

A case was registered against him at Arakkonam town police station.
