CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu saw yet another day of protests on Wednesday over the Cauvery issue. While PMK’s bandh call evoked response only in certain pockets of the State, party cadres resorted to rail roko across the State. Stones were thrown at a few buses.In Chennai there was a partial response. Most shops on the main road were doing business while shops in interior areas remained closed.Anbumani Ramadoss, MP and youth wing secretary of PMK, was arrested along with 400 cadres on Wednesday at Egmore railway station when they tried to enter the station to block trains.

The PMK had called for a bandh on Wednesday to condemn the Centre for not forming the Cauvery Management Board. Various political parties, including DMK, TMC and TVK, extended their support to the bandh. Besides, Puducherry unit of Congress also extended it support to the bandh.Later, Anbumani told media that the Prime Minister had refused to give an appointment for an all party delegation from Tamil Nadu to discuss the CMB even after a resolution was adopted. Similarly, around 300 persons, including 40 women, were arrested for staging agitations at Nasarethpet, GST road and Chrompet. About 650 persons took part in an agitation that was held at Ambattur Uzhavarsanthai under the leadership of Ramadoss, PMK founder.

Police cane youth to quell flash protest

Police resorted to lathicharge to bring situation under control when youth tried to stage a protest on the Anna Nagar Link Road late on Wednesday night demanding Cauvery Management Board. The windshield of a KSRTC bus bound for Mysore from Kumbakonam was damaged when a few arrested youth managed to escape custody and pelted stones at the bus. No passenger was injured. The youth, mostly college students, assembled in large numbers on the arterial road around 8.45 pm following an ‘invite’ on a Whatsapp group for a pro-jallikattu style protest. 

Not wrong to show black flags against PM: TTV
Coimbatore:
The proposed black flag protest was not against Prime Minister Narendra Modi but against the inordinate delay by the Central government in forming the Cauvery Management Board, said RK Nagar MLA TTV Dhinarakaran here on Wednesday. Addressing journalists during a press meet, the Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam deputy general secretary TTV Dhinakaran said, “We are not protesting the Prime Minister’s Tamil Nadu visit but his governments delay in setting up CMB. We are ready to join hands with any like-minded party that would strive to get the State its due rights. This is an agitation against the Centre’s apathy,” he added.
