THOOTHUKUDI: Advocates belong to the Thoothukudi bar association on Friday staged a one-day hunger strike in front of the court premises here condemning the continuing police atrocities against those participated in the anti-Sterlite protests.

Protesting against the police actions, including illegal raiding of the houses in the midnight to arrest those participated in the Sterlite agitation, the advocates demanded the authorities to stop the raids immediately.
Demanding justice for those killed in the police firing, the advocates, led by the bar association’s ad hoc committee president AWD Tilak, urged the State government to take policy decision to shut down the Sterlite unit permanently.

They also asked the the government to register murder cases against the policemen guilty of firing at the innocent  protesters.
