CHENNAI: Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Saturday urged Union Minister of Civil Aviation Suresh Prabhu to expedite arrangements for flight services from three key places in Tamil Nadu - Hosur, Neyveli and Ramanathapuram - under Phase I and II of the UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik) Scheme aimed at promoting air connectivity between regions.

While thanking the Union minister for the efforts being made to provide air connectivity to Salem, the Chief Minister pointed out that Hosur, an important industrial hub in Krishnagiri district, was selected under the UDAN Scheme in the first phase but flight operations were yet to start for want of ‘No Objection Certificate’ from the Bengaluru International Airport.

Stating that the Hosur airport would be an engine of growth to the industrial hub of Krishnagiri and neighbouring districts and also would develop the Chennai-Bengaluru industrial corridor, the Chief Minister requested the Union minister  to make the Hosur airport operational immediately.

Similarly, the bidding process with airline operators has been completed for Neyveli selected in the Phase I of the UDAN Scheme. So, steps to start flight operations from Neyveli should be expedited, he said.
