TIRUCHY:   A tribal residential higher secondary school nestled in the foothills of Pachamalai in Thuraiyur taluk came out with flying colours in the Class XII board exam results announced on Monday after it recorded a 100% pass percentage.

The school, one of two tribal schools in the district, houses students from both Tiruchy and Salem, most of whom have to walk anywhere between seven and ten kilometres to the school. In spite of the many challenges, the school has displayed good performance in the past years.

Topping the 57 students of the school who attended the exams was S Logeshwari, who scored 500 marks in the Computer Science group. J Madhavan, the headmaster, said that while original admissions to the school were 67, some of them were unable to appear for the exam due to implications of the pandemic.

“The recent admission of teachers to vacant posts has greatly helped in helping the students clear the exams,” he said, adding that students from the neighbouring Salem district had enrolled at the school. Since most of them were from hilly regions, the demands of travel put additional pressure on them. A teacher at the school said that a hostel on the school campus would make students’ life easier and a request was made to the government.
