COIMBATORE: All nine AIADMK candidates contesting across the district are expected to file their nominations only on April 6, which is the final day for filing nominations to contest in the Assembly elections on April 23.

"I will be filing nomination papers at 11 am on Monday as I consider the day auspicious," said Mettupalayam MLA candidate OK Chinraj, who has won in the constituency thrice since 2006. However, he said that he is yet to prepare an election manifesto that would be put before the voters as part of election promises.

Another AIADMK MLA said that they have decided to file nominations on April 6 since the party's general secretary, Edappadi K Palaniswami, will be filing his nomination on that day.

While SP Velumani is yet to begin his official campaign, he has started meeting voters in his constituency, especially members of the Jain community at RS Puram in Coimbatore city. Addressing reporters, Velumani said that the AIADMK alliance will win 21 constituencies in Coimbatore, Tiruppur and Nilgiris districts.

Coimbatore South constituency candidate Amman K Arjun kick-started his campaign at Ukkadam Akshaya Ganapathy Vinayakar temple on Wednesday morning, and in Kinathukkadavu, S Damodaran will begin his campaign on April 10. Damodaran said that most of the MLA funds in the last five years were used to construct bus stands and ration shops in the constituency.

"The main problem in my constituency is that people in the vicinity of the Vellalore dump yard are facing hardship due to polluted groundwater and stench emanating from dumped garbage. I will work to resolve these grievances on priority after becoming the MLA again, as I have always done," said Damodaran.

Kavundampalayam candidate PRG Arun Kumar, who kick-started his campaign at Vellanaipatti on Wednesday morning, stated that the DMK has stalled several projects, just so that an AIADMK MLA would not be able to carry out work.

Likewise, other candidates, KR Jayaram for Singanallur, VP Kandhsamy for Sulur, V Jayaraman for Pollachi and D Lakshmana Singh for Valparai have also confirmed that they will also be filing their nominations on April 6.
