MADURAI: The Madurai City Crime Branch-III police on Tuesday arrested three persons, including K Anbalagan (59), Personal Assistant (Land Acquisition) to the Ramanathapuram Collector and the former Madurai North Tahsildar, in connection with the illegal registration of a trust property endowed to Meenakshi Sundareswarar temple.
One of the kingpins, S Iyalayaraja (43) of New Vilangudi in Madurai, was arrested on Monday. With this, the number of arrests has risen to three. Earlier, V Rajkumar, 63, of Ammanipattu in Pudukkottai district, was arrested on Sunday.
As per police, a case was registered against 19 persons, including former and present government officials, for the fraudulent transfer and registration of 1.79 acres land belonging to the Pudukkottai Rajakumarar Dakshanamoorthy Durairaja Durairani Trust, located in Madurai city.
The property was illegally transferred in the names of nine persons, including V Ramayee Ayyar of Pudukkottai, in 2016. Though the transfer was cancelled later, Ramayee and others, concealing the facts, executed power of attorney in favour of two persons, including S Iyalayaraja, at the Murappanadu Sub-Registrar Office in Thoothukudi district in 2021. Later that year, Iyalayaraja and the other registered a mortgage deed in favour of three persons, including Iyalayaraja’s wife Kavitha.
