Express News Service

HYDERABAD: Days after the encounters in the State — the gunbattle between SIMI operatives and policemen at Suryapet and the killing of five alleged terror operatives in Alair mandal — security of Chief Minister K Chandrsekhar Rao has been further strengthened.

The Intelligence Security Wing (ISW) officials on Monday added a new bullet- proof ‘fire-fighting’ vehicle to the CM’s convoy which can thwart any attack from gunmen on the convoy.

Highly placed sources told Express that based on inputs from intelligence agencies on possible threat from terror outfits in view of the recent encounters, the security wing provided a new vehicle to the CM’s convoy. It would help his security personnel retaliate swiftly and effectively, in case the CM’s convoy comes under fire.

The specially made Scorpio vehicle has four windows, two on either side to facilitate retaliatory fire while keeping a watch on the movement of vehicles or individuals. Four armed personnel would be posted inside the moving vehicle holding sophisticated weapons. Besides, the vehicle is completely bullet-proof. “Fire can be opened from all the four windows if the need arises,’’ explained an official. ISW officials will also send the new vehicle to districts during the CM’s visit.
