HYDERABAD: Nearly eight lakh Intermediate students in Telangana may not be able to write their public examinations with the Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education (TSIBE) denying affiliation to 98 percent of the colleges for violating affiliation norms. With just four months left for the public examinations, the future of the students of these colleges is hanging in dilemma.
Citing violation of norms, the Intermediate Board has recently denied affiliation to 2,497 of the 2,554 colleges in the state. Only 57 colleges managed to get their provisional affiliation for academic year 2015-16. In the notices sent recently to these colleges, the board has made it clear that unless the affiliation is granted, their students can not appear for the examinations.
In a first-ever such action, the Intermediate Board has sent a clear message to colleges by rejecting their affiliation applications in a large number. Out of 361 Intermediate colleges in Hyderabad, only one was granted affiliation and just 15 out of 521 colleges in Ranga Reddy district managed to clear the process.
Though the number of disaffiliated colleges is higher than ever, it was no different in the past. In the previous academic year, the Intermediate Board granted affiliation to only 459 colleges.
Board officials claim that colleges are often ignorant of the norms. Many institutes have been violating the norms for a long time. Said a senior official, “New addresses of many colleges have not been updated with the board. In fact, the colleges did not even take permission from the board to shift their campuses. There are many other norms they violated.”
As the board has already invited applications for enrolment for the annual examinations, students of the disaffiliated colleges are becoming worried. It is still not clear whether the board will accept their applications before the affiliation issue is resolved. When Express tried to contact him for his comment, commissioner of Intermediate Education A Ashok was not available.
