HYDERABAD: A division bench of Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday directed Telangana government to file a report before the court explaining the steps being taken to prevent infants falling into abandoned borewells and dying in tragic circumstances.
The bench comprising ACJ Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice T Rajani was dealing with a PIL filed by Prakash Buddarapu, a practicing advocate of the HC, complaining that the provisions of law were not being followed by the persons who drill the borewells and failure of the officers to take appropriate steps in this regard. The petitioner sough implementation of the guidelines of the Supreme Court and WALTA to prevent such tragic incidents.
Citing a recent fatal accident of a toddler, who died after falling into an uncovered borewell at Chevella recently, petitioner’s counsel said the child died despite efforts by the rescue teams.
Expressing concern over the incident, the bench said it will deal with the issue appropriately after seeing the report of the authorities.While adjourning the case by three weeks, the bench issued notices to the authorities concerned for filing report with regard to the steps taken by them to prevent such incidents in future.
