HYDERABAD: Telangana law minister A Indrakaran Reddy, who met visiting Union minister of state for law and justice PP Chaudhary here on Sunday, complained about the attitude of the Andhra Pradesh government to bifurcation of the High Court.
“The AP government has constructed its Assembly and Secretariat at Amaravati in a record time. But it is delaying the process of construction of a building for High Court. Because of this, the bifurcation of the present common HC in Hyderabad is getting delayed,” he told Chaudhary.
When the state minister requested the Union minister to take immediate steps for setting up separate High Courts for AP and TS as per the provisions of the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014, the Union minister responded positively, saying that the Centre would take measures to bifurcate the court at the earliest.
Indrakaran Reddy reminded the Union minister that the State Assembly had passed a unanimous resolution in the past, urging the Centre to bifurcate the HC as early as possible. He also explained to Chaudhary that Section 31 of AP Reorganisation Act, 2014, categorically specified that as per Article 241 of the Constitution separate High Courts be established for the two states.
“If the Centre is ready to bifurcate the HC without any further delay, the TS government is ready to provide the required buildings for the functioning of the Telangana High Court. In fact, setting up of separate High Courts for the two states is a long-pending demand. Our chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has several times brought the issue to the notice of prime minister Narendra Modi,” Reddy told Chaudhary.
Later, addressing mediapersons, Reddy alleged that only because of the tactics adopted by the AP government to delay construction of a building for the High Court at Amaravati, AP’s capital, the entire process of bifurcation of the Hyderabad High Court was held up.
Points raised by Indrakaran:
As the process of HC bifurcation is still in limbo, 42 pc posts should be given to people of Telangana in judicial officers.
Judges have not been divided between the two states.
Centre should take steps for filling up posts in courts.
Centre should provide funds for construction of district courts in all new TS districts.
Six new judges for HC
Addressing advocates’ meeting organised by BJP state unit here on Sunday, Union minister of state for law and justice PP Chaudhary said very soon six judges would be appointed to the HC. Union labour minister Bandaru Dattatreya said, “The governments of the two states should amicably resolve the issue.”
