Board of Intermediate Education asks private junior colleges to register to run hostels

Junior college managements are required to shell out anything between Rs 50,000 and Rs 80,000 as inspection fee and Rs 1 lakh and Rs 60,000 towards permission fee.

HYDERABAD: Private junior colleges in the state have to now register and seek approval of the Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education to run hostels on their premises or off it from 2018-19 academic year.

In a memo issued on Saturday, TSBIE said that the move is to regulate functioning of these hostels.  “In the interest of the student community and to avoid any unforeseen incidents in hostels, the Telangana State Board of Intermediate has decided to register and grant permission and regulate the hostels functioning within or outside the premises of private Unaided Junior Colleges from the academic year 2018-19,” read the statement. 

Junior college managements are required to shell out anything between `50,000 and `80,000 as inspection fee and `1 lakh and `60,000 towards permission fee. The amount, however, will vary depending upon the number of students. Also, the approval has to be renewed yearly. Accordingly for a hostel for  50 students, managements have to pay `4 lakh per year, for 200 students the amount is `8 lakh. Hostels with students between 201 to 500 students, will have to pay 12 lakh and for those with more than 500 students, will be required to pay `16 lakh.The managements have to apply for permission online by registering through the TSBIE website.
