HYDERABAD: A division bench of the Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday directed the Telangana government to henceforth follow due selection process and rules in vogue while making appointments of the Information Commissioners to the state information commission.

The bench of Chief Justice TBN Radhakrishnan and Justice V Ramasubramanian was dismissing the PIL filed seeking to quash the appointment orders of S Raja Sadaram and Buddha Murali as Telangana state chief information commissioner and state information commissioner, respectively. Petitioner G Srinivasa Rao, journalist and social activist from Ranga Reddy district, pointed out that the state government had made the above appointments without the issue of any notification inviting applications from qualified persons for the said posts.

Within two days from the date of constitution of the committee comprising the state chief minister, leader of the opposition and the deputy chief minister for recommending candidates to the above posts, the government had finalized the above two appointments without following due procedures, he noted.
