Justice Hima Kohli takes oath as first woman CJ of Telangana HC

Kohli, who was a judge of Delhi High Court, was administered the oath of office by Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan at an event held at Raj Bhavan here.

HYDERABAD: Justice Hima Kohli was sworn in as the new Chief Justice of Telangana High Court at Raj Bhavan here on Thursday. Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan administered the oath of office to Kohli, who is now the first woman CJ of Telangana HC. Apart from the CJ, the strength of Telangana HC judges stands at 13 as against the sanctioned strength of 24. 

Besides several HC judges, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, Legislative Council chairman Gutta Sukhender Reddy, Assembly Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, Union Minister G Kishan Reddy, other Ministers, MPs, senior bureaucrats and their family members attended the swearing-in-ceremony. 

Justice TBN Radhakrishnan was the first CJ of Telangana HC, which came into existence on January 1, 2019. In June 2019, Justice Raghvendra Singh Chauhan was appointed as his successor. On December 31 last year, Justice Hima Kohli, a senior judge of the Delhi High Court, was elevated and appointed as the new CJ. After taking oath of the new office, the new CJ along with senior judge Justice MS Ramachandra Rao conducted the court proceedings virtually in the afternoon.

Later, Telangana advocate general BS Prasad, High Court advocates’ association president, additional solicitor general of India for Southern zone T Surya Karan Reddy and others congratulated Justice Kohli on her appointment.
